The Story Of Oil...The Challenges Of The 21st Century

TheStoryOfOil…TheChallengesOfThe21stCentury

After September 11, 2001, the Story of Oil changed dramatically. As we all know, the coordinated terrorist attacks were orchestrated by Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.

The George W. Bush/Dick Cheney administration decided naturally to blame Iraq’s Saddam Hussein, claiming that he was in league with Bin Laden.  And what about that secret stash of ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’?

Despite massive worldwide protests and intelligence information that proved otherwise, The White House, with Senate approval, ordered an impressive invasion, eliminating Hussein, his unruly sons, and his ruling Bath Party. Mission accomplished!

Exactly what was that mission?  According to a retired U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia James Akins, the Saudi OPEC chief Ahmed Sheikh Zaki Yamani and many other experts familiar with the Middle East, one of the main goals of the American effort was to dominate Iraqi Oil.

And so, the Challenges of the 21st Century began.

Up until our present global Coronavirus pandemic, world growth and oil consumption have exploded in tandem, along with the problems of grasping oligarchs, over-priced pipelines, and—especially in Africa—graft-fringed politics.

All have been threatening the vast supply line of Saudi Arabia, which has thus far remained in control of price and supply for the entire world.

Everything has changed, for how long we can’t really know. The ‘oil wars’ may be over or soon back with us, but the handwriting on the wall will surely come to pass.

Oil is not a ‘technology’. It is a limited resource that has long been undervalued, fueling a careless and growing world. Will truly green alternatives to oil like solar, wind, tidal, biomass and hydro ever become a viable option for us? Or must we drastically change our ways?

If this latest and most deadly pandemic is any indication, not to mention, the continued use of Oil as a Weapon now caused Russia's intervention in Ukraine, the answer would have to be a resounding YES. Now everybody suffers from higher oil pirces to the West.
