Vishnudevananda Saraswati (1927-1993) became a monk at the Sivananda Ashram in India in 1947, where he trained hundreds in Indians and Western students. His passion for study led to his realization and understanding of many ancient practices and forms, claiming that the hidden knowledge had returned to him from past lives. In 1961 he imigrated to Montreal, Canada and founded the first Sivananda Vedanta Center. Today there are 19 centers and locations around the world making Sivananda one of the largest training bodies of yoga teachers in the world… producing nearly 40,000 graduates!
A few friends from along the way...
Vishnudevananda condensed the teachings of classical yoga into five principles: proper exercise, proper breathing, proper relaxation, proper diet (vegetarian), and meditation and positive thinking.
