"Andy Warhol’s Factory People" The Original Three Part Series Set of Three DVD's (3x52')

“Andy Warhol’s Factory People” tells the story of Warhol and his friends, superstars, enemies, and hangers on who were there with him in his Silver Factory, 1964-1968.

“What makes this documentary different is its avowed bottom-up approach: Warhol as a function of his followers is the idea. Most successfully,”Factory People” is a picture of bohemians in their age. Some have fared better than others, but a remarkable many have survived to remember. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, the film and its subjects say-but anyway, it was a time.”-Robert Lloyd, The Los Angeles Times.

Five years in the making, and edited from 50 hours of interviews with the survivors, the film starts in the late fifties when Andy came to NYC from Pittsburgh, and began to collect a group of people who were there with him when he opened the Silver Factory in 1964, and closed in 1968 just before he was shot by Valerie Solanis, when the Factory Idea became commercial, professionalized and a money making machine.

Mavericks from the Factory give their take on Warhol and his drug and sex-fuelled studio. Brilliant editing and inter-cutting result in a fast moving collage mixing clips from films by and about Warhol, and a vibrant sound track. Labor intensive and meticulously crafted. -Judith Bumpus, The Art Newspaper, London

During the Silver Factory Era, Andy did his most important art, created a body avant-garde film work, wrote books, popularized the Velvet Underground, and did a lot of amazing things. Perhaps the “Factory People” that surrounded him had a lot to do with it all.

“Factory People” discovers the influence of the beats on sixties culture, savours the irony of the rising tide of independent film making, and plays to the origins of the alternative down-town music scene, all of which swirled around and influenced Andy over his most productive period of making art, making films, and making friends.

“It would be amazing to teach this as a study in artistic ecology.  Andy couldn't have done what he did without his amazing circle, and the circle makes sense only in the light of his special form of patronage.”-Christopher P. Schiff, Scholar and Performance Artist, Music & Arts Librarian, Bates College

"I’m confident that “Andy Warhol’s Factory People” will find an enthusiastic and critical audience here at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. It is important to expose our undergraduates to the historical relevance of the Factory." -Darin Murphy, School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
