Reflections on Weimar and America today...

Between the World Wars, Germany experienced freedoms of expression that had never been known. Artistic, talented souls, many of whom were LGBTQ and Jewish, were center stage...creating the art, films, and theater that only a true free society would allow. Then, along came Hitler and the Nazi Party. Slowly and eventually the artists, writers, actors and others who had flowered were forced to escape or be extinguished in the camps. Today in America, we are experiencing a kind of "Weimar" that will hopefully be checked with the arrival of the new Democratic Congress. The little film that is linked below and the 90 minute performance it introduces, tells a tale that every institution and college campus should be concerned about as anti- semitism is once again on the rise.
